Hotel Costa del Sol

• An excellent hotel in a handsome colonial building next to the cathedral on the Plaza de Armas -- hands-down the most enviable location in town -- and part of a small Peruvian chain with several properties in northern Peru, this is the best, and really only, upscale place to stay if you want to be right in town. For visiting business travelers, including those who come to oversee operations in the mines outside town, it's the top choice. It has very comfortable, good-size, and nicely decorated rooms, as well as the most complete menu of amenities and services in Cajamarca, including a pool, spa, casino, and a very nice glass-enclosed restaurant. Given all it offers, it's an excellent value.
