  • Calgary may not be considered to the Capital of Cool by everyone, but there's much more to it than a strictly-business oil-boom city. The entire area of Kensington defies this typical Calgary reputation, with a myriad of coffee shops, record stores, vintage retailers and other hipster haunts. Further downtown, you'll find a plethora of nightlife activity along 1st Street SW, including dance bars, late-night eats and a variety of pubs. 17th ave offers its own selection of cool things to see and do, though it certainly has its fair share of overly tourist-heavy draws. Stephen Ave. offers a slightly more upscale selection of trendy lounges and restaurants, though further west along the street, you'll find the downtown film district, where indie theaters like the Globe and the Uptown await.
