  • Calgary should be the capital of great burgers. Alberta beef is one of our most beloved provincial treasures. Ranching in Alberta is a huge part of our culture. Rodeos, cowboys, and beef are as Albertan as it gets. So, finding a great burger in Calgary should be a snap, right? Well, yes, we do have some great burgers in Calgary. But, we also have some duds.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries just opened in Calgary. It's in Deerfoot Meadows shopping area, almost right beside FatBurger, which opened a few years ago. Five Guys is a place that I go back to again and again. The burgers are filling and fresh. The toppings are crispy and there's a lot of choices. The peanuts add to the unique quality of this restaurant, too.

Boogie's Burgers is a Calgary favorite. Located just north of downtown, along Edmonton Trail, this establishment has been voted the best burger in town for a long time, even back into the 1970's. It doesn't win every year, of course, but it has a long history of excellence.

The Chuckwagon Cafe is a particular favorite. Turner Valley is a bit of a drive out of town, but it's well worth it for this uniquely Albertan experience. The beef can't get any fresher, since it's raised on site. And the toppings and condiments are fresh and zesty.

Some of Calgary's pubs offer great burgers, too. The Ship and Anchor Pub is one of Calgary's best pubs, and its burger is a great value. It's cheap and delicious. Also notable are The Blind Monk and Broken City.
