Calgary Outdoor Recreation

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Calgary loves to be outdoors. With ample park spaces and a close proximity to Kananaskis country, Calgary is one of the world's best places to enjoy getting active outside. Most people in Calgary love to ski, bike, jog, fish, golf, or just enjoy the summer.

Canada Olympic Park offers a lot of great recreation choices. The ski hill has one of Canada's largest ski schools. It's a great place to learn how to ski, because you don't have to spend a whole day driving to the mountains just to take lessons and it's a lot gentler than the steep slopes in the mountains. COP has North America's largest urban half-pipe, too. The cross-country trails are some of the best in the city, as well, and they are lit for evenings. And, the bobsleigh, which is pricey, is one of the few tracks in the world open to the public. How often do you get to try bobsleigh, really?

Sikome Lake is a public lake that is man-made. It's quite shallow, which helps it stay warm, and a beach surrounds the whole lake. This is a great place for a BBQ and a beach volleyball game. But, it's only open from May to September.

Kananaskis country is full of recreation, hiking, biking, fishing, climbing, golf, skiing, camping, etc. The golf course in Kananaskis is one of Alberta's best. The setting makes this one of the best mountain courses in the world.
