Hi there. If you have a car, or can rent one for the day, drive to Banff and see the mountains.

If you are staying in Calgary, and assuming you like walking, visit the Calgary Zoo, Heritage Park or take a walk by the river. Rent some bikes and take advantage of the 100's of kilometers of bike paths. There's many excellent golf courses inside the city limits or just outside (check out Country Hills, Heritage Point, Speargrass, etc.) There's many, many dining options within walking distance downtown too.

Hello!

Wow! Two days! Let's see...

Option #1 Staying in the city:

I know Phil suggests you rent a car and head out of town. However, if you are staying at the Palliser, you are right in the heart of downtown. You'll be on the same block as the Calgary Tower. You'll also be a block away from the pedestrian street "Stephan Avenue" that I write about so often. There aren't any specific events along the street that weekend (yet) but there are a number of galleries, restaurants and shops. The Glenbow Museum is downtown and the Science Centre has the Titanic Exhibit until 6/27. The zoo and Heritage Park are also good ideas depending on the weather. During the summer, there are also zip line and bobsleigh rides at Canada Olympic Park. It depends on what you are up for. You can also take a tour and see the city and the mountains from the top of the ski jump tower.
I might also mention that the lounge in the Palliser makes a great martini and has a nice tapas plate on the menu :-)

Option #2 Getting out of town:

As an avid hiker, I can say that the mountains are awe inspiring. If you have the chance, it's nice to take a drive out. However, most tourists are pointed to Banff as a quick and easy adventure. During the summer, I suggest only going as far as Kananaskis it's about 45mins from Calgary by car and not as commercial as Banff. There are a number of paths, picnic spots and historical points of interest in the area as well as a few nice places to eat lunch or my favourite; late afternoon icecream. If you are golfers, there are courses in the area. If you want to try something else, I might suggest a river float trip or rafting along the mountain rivers.

I hope this helps you. Unfortunately, with Calgary and the area, there are so many things to see that without more specifics on your likes and dislikes or desired activity level it is tough to point you in the right direction. If you have any further questions, please respond to this message and I will provide as much information as I can to make sure you're two days are enjoyable and memorable.

Safe travels,
Heidi
