Calgary Fun for Kids

Description:

Calgary has a lot to offer in terms of fun, educational activities for kids and parents. This trip includes 3 venues for kids, each one of which could easily use up a whole day of energy for little legs. If you don't have that much time, pick and choose what sounds most appealing.

Day 1 - Calgary

Stop by Booster Juice in the morning for a healthy and energizing fruit smoothie. You'll need the energy to take on the zoo. It's good if you can visit the zoo on a weekday instead of a weekend, as it will be a little less busy and harder to lose curious little explorers in the crowds. Get a map on the way into the zoo and determine a route where you'll get to see all the attractions that appeal to you, because there's a lot and you don't want to get too tired to see the important animals (a personal recommendation: visit the new baby elephant!). After spending as much time as you want at the zoo, walk or drive to Spolumbos in Inglewood and have a delicious sandwich or Panini made with Italian meats.

For dinner, head to Peter's Drive-In on 16th Ave. N.E. for some of their famous burgers, fries and shakes. You'll have to drive there, but the delicious food makes the trip well worth it.

Day 3 - Calgary

Head to the Lazy Loaf & Kettle early in the a.m. as the venue always fills up fast. The delicious homemade sandwiches, baked goods and coffees are what makes this place to famous amongst locals. It's also just blocks from the Bow River walkway if you want to take a quick walk. Once you're full of food and caffeine, and ready for the day, get on 16th Ave. N.E (also Hwy. 1) and drive west to Calaway Park, Calgary's closest thing to Disneyland. You can spend the entire day there, enjoying rides, stage shows, treats and seasonal entertainment. Once you're finished, you can continue your trip by driving west to the Rockies,or head back to the city for a good night's sleep after a busy day -- the kids will sleep well tonight.
