Stampeding Calgary

Description:

The Calgary Stampede brings in more than 1 million tourists a year and it's not hard to see why it's grown into a world-class show. The rodeo, the chuckwagon races, the food, the parties - there is plenty to keep you entertained, no matter what you're looking for. But one weekend is usually enough to experience the essence of Stampede, and that's probably all you can handle.

Day 1 - Calgary

As soon as you arrive in Calgary during any of the ten Stampede days‚ you'll notice things are a little different than usual. People everywhere will be dressed in Western attire and publicly having a good time. One of the most famous bars to experience the Stampede is Cowboys‚ the home of the supposed hottest wait staff in town. This is where you'll experience the legendary Stampede parties. But line-ups build quickly‚ so be ready to stand in line. And don’t forget to wear your cowboy hat!

Day 2 - Calgary

Begin your big Stampede day by finding yourself a Stampede breakfast. Stampede breakfasts are free breakfasts put on by businesses in Calgary and they go on all ten days in a variety of venues. Visit www.flapjackfinder.com to find one closest to you. Next, head on down to the Stampede grounds, where you’ll find huge crowds, tons of food, midway rides, live entertainment and the legendary rodeo and evening show. I would recommend getting tickets for at least the rodeo or the chuckwagon races/evening show as this is the main attraction of the Stampede and is always a good show and a great time. You can get tickets in advance or rush tickets on the day of. Once you’re ready for the evening portion of entertainment, decide whether you want to stay on Stampede grounds or move off. There is one bar on the grounds where you’ll always find crowds to capacity and a wild party – Nashville North. But the line-up here almost always requires a 1-2 hour wait. If you want to leave Stampede grounds, head down south to Ranchman’s, Calgary’s original honkey-tonk bar, featuring country music, line dancing, real cowboys and a mechanical bull.
