Description:

  • This is the most popular and reliable restaurant in town, not to be confused with the more down-market and sudsier Ratskeller, whose entrance lies a few feet away. The Ratsstube, built in the early 1800s, has two separate dining rooms, each evocative of a bygone Germany. It's very rustic and ethnic German; very little English is spoken by the staff. The interior is a labyrinth of masonry-sided rooms. The well-prepared but not particularly innovative dishes include Zwiebelrostbraten (roast beef with onions), filet of sole in wine sauce, stingray in black-butter sauce, trout with almonds or meunière style, and an array of sausages served with cabbage and roasted potatoes. Service is competent.
