For travelers that want to experience "real" Mexico, or perhaps, to save a little money on accommodations, hotels in downtown Cancun fit the bill. There are numerous hotels and hostels located near main streets (on, or near bus routes), popular restaurants and night spots, supermarkets, shopping malls, and flea markets. Hotels in downtown Cancun are a short drive from the beaches and the major nightclubs, in the hotel zone, but at a fraction of the cost.
B2B Malecon Plaza Hotel & Convention Center is downtown Cancun's newest and nicest hotel. It's a short walk from Plaza Las Americas & Malecon Americas, a large shopping mall, and has some water views, since it's a high-rise.
Ramada Cancun City, Hotel Xbalamque, and Caribe Internacional are all on Yaxchilan Avenue, a lively area with many great restaurants and bars. They are also walking distance to Mercado 28, a major flea market, the ADO bus terminal, Walmart, and the bus route to catch a bus to the hotel zone.
Radisson Hotel Hacienda Cancun and Best Western Plaza Kokai are in quiet areas, but both are a close to shops, restaurants, nightlife, and the bus route.
