  • This is your inner foodie speaking. I'm hungry. And the five-star restaurants of Cancun are calling, with their lust-worthy aromas, clinking wine glasses and dazzling denizens. After all this sight-seeing, you deserve a little four-course indulgence. So do something nice for me, you, and your salivating palate, and book a table at these first-class restaurants.

John Gray's Downtown, L'Escargot, and La Habichuela are all located in Downtown Cancun, but are definitely worth the trip from the hotel zone. (Although there is now a La Habichuela in the hotel zone.) All of the other top restaurants on our list are in Cancun's hotel zone.

John Gray's Downtown serves up international cuisine, in an intimate setting.

L'Escargot is a small, but fantastic, French restaurant in a residential area of Cancun. The garden area is lovely and is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner.

Thai & Elefanta are sister properties, in Plaza La Isla. Both are over-looking the water and are consistently named two of Cancun's best, and most romantic restaurants. Thai serves Thai food, as it's name implies, while Elefanta serves Indian cuisine. Call ahead to reserve of Thai's private, over-the-water tables, or one of Elefanta's tables right on the water's edge.

La Habichuela is one of Cancun's oldest and finest restaurants. The downtown location has a beautiful garden area, decorated with twinkling lights in the trees. They serve Mexican fare, as well as some steaks and seafood.

Laguna Grill, Harry's, and Captain's Cove all serve primarily seafood & steak, in gorgeous water-front settings.

JC Capitan serves mostly seafood, with a couple of beef or chicken dishes tossed in to satisfy the non-seafood eaters in your group.  Reserve a private, over-the-water table for a very special dining experience.

La Palapa Belga is located inside a small hotel, in Cancun's hotel zone.  It is not on the main stretch of hotels and restaurants so tourists often miss this little gem.  The tables are all set up on a pier, right next to the lagoon, and there is no roof.  Here, you dine under the stars.  The food & service are excellent and you will be doing yourself a great disservice if you don't seek out La Palapa Belga on your next trip.
