Boutique hotels are small properties that traditionally have less than 50 rooms. In Cancun, there are only a few hotels that can truly be called "boutique hotels", since the majority of the resorts are quite large, but there are quite a few smaller properties (with more than 50 rooms) that are special and unique.
Avalon Baccara and Casa Turquesa are the only resorts, in Cancun's hotel zone, that can be considered true boutique hotels. Casa Turquesa has only 33 suites and Avalon Baccara has just 27 rooms and suites. A stay at either of these tiny resorts is more like vacationing in a private villa than a hotel.
Bel Air Collection is a small, hip hotel with 156 rooms. The luxe resort is decorated in a minimalist style.
Caribbean Princess, Grand Royal Lagoon, and Imperial Laguna Cancun are small properties located on Nichupte Lagoon. Imperial Laguna Cancun is a budget resort but it is home to one of Cancun's finest restaurants, La Palapa Belga.
Ocean Spa Hotel and Hotel Xbalamque Cancun are simple, yet nice, hotels with small spas. The prices for spa treatments in either hotel will not break the bank. Hotel Xbalamque is located in downtown Cancun, while Ocean Spa Hotel is in the hotel zone.
