Cancun's hotel zone has hundreds of restaurants but only a small number of them are known, by both locals and tourists, to be the cream of the crop. The most popular restaurants in the hotel zone are seafood restaurants and steak houses. Considering Cancun is surrounded by water, it's no surprise that there are an abundance of great seafood restaurants in town.
Captain's Cove, JC Capitan, Puerto Madero, and Laguna Grill are best-known for their seafood, although Captain's Cove and Laguna Grill also have wonderful steaks.
Harry's and Cambalache are the places to go for a good steak while in Cancun.
Thai has amazing Thai food and oozes ambiance. In addition to having delicious food, it's also one of Cancuns most romantic restaurants. The private, over-the-water tables are one of the best spots in town for a romantic meal.
Paloma Bonita and La Destileria are both Mexican restaurants, but with very different styles. Paloma Bonita is very upscale and serves gourmet cuisine, while La Destileria is a bit more laid-back and has a more relaxed atmosphere. Both are wonderful in their own way.
La Palapa Belga is a bit off the beaten path and, even though it's in Cancun's hotel zone, it is not well-known by tourists. This restaurant is totally worth finding though. You dine outside, under the stars and the food and service are excellent. This is a "must see" in Cancun.
