With an abundance of sun, sand, and outdoor attractions, you'll find your fill of things to do in Cancun. Sunbathing on the beach and body surf in the Caribbean Sea are great vacation activities but Cancun is surrounded by so many great attractions that it's a shame to spend your entire vacation laying in the sun.
To experience some Mayan culture, take a day trip to Chichen Itza, one of the most famous Mayan ruins sites in the region. If you prefer something a bit closer to your resort, you can visit the Mayan ruins of Coba (you can climb the pyramid at Coba) or Tulum. The ruins of Tulum are perched on top of a cliff, overlooking one of the most beautiful beaches in the entire Yucatan Peninsula.
Outdoor enthusiasts will love Xcaret and Xel-Ha, ecological parks that have many activities for all age groups to enjoy. At the parks, you can swim with dolphins, see flora and fauna from the region, snorkel, or float down a lazy river.
Jungle tours are also popular among locals and tourists alike. The Jungle Tour (a water tour) is a fun way to see the lagoon and mangroves, from small speedboats that you drive, and the Hummer Jungle Tour is a land-based tour that involves seeing the sites while you drive a Hummer.
The Trimaran Cruise to Isla Mujeres is a great way to spend a day. You sail over to the island, which is approximately 6 miles off the northern coast of Cancun, and spend the day on the island. There, you can relax on the beach, have a drink in one of the many seaside bars, shop in the quaint downtown area, or tour the island on a golf cart.
All of the activities mentioned are great for families, but one of the most popular things to do in Cancun with children, is to take the Captain Hook Dinner Cruise, on a pirate ship. The Captain Hook cruise isn't just for kids though. Adults also love it. Regardless of how you choose to pass your time, while on vacation, you'll find an myriad of options when it comes to fun things to do.
