NileGuide Expert tip:

Take a picnic lunch and eat on the grass near the ancient ruins. You can reach these ruins by taking the city bus to Playa Delfines and then walk to the entrance to El Rey (a 5 minute walk).

Description:

El Rey is a small archaeological site of Mayan ruins, located amid the hustle and bustle of Cancun's hotel zone.  It is the largest site of Mayan ruins in Cancun's hotel. Even though the park is just steps away from the busy street and sprawling resorts, it is extremely quiet and peaceful. Enjoy the tranquility of the area while exploring the ancient ruins. There is a small pyramid and several other small structures. The entire site can be seen in about an hour but it is a fun and educational way to pass the time.  You will see hundreds of iguanas at El Rey, which make it a big hit with children. The park is located at the bottom of a flight of stairs. Once inside the park, the ground is flat and it is not a strenuous walk to see the ruins.
