Grito de la Independencia

Description:

  • On September 15th on the stroke of midnight, Mexico celebrates the Independence of 1810 with a "Cry." This is the country's most important national holiday. The "Grito de la Independencia" (Independence Cry) is carried out throughout Mexico. The official cry is carried out by the president, but local governors go out to their government house's balconies at midnight to give the traditional "Viva Mexico!" After the official celebration, the atmosphere is ideal to go to some bar or to have fun downtown with the mariachis and other shows. On this special day, Mexicans like to carry the national flag and wear clothes in its colours: green, white and red.
