As in anywhere in the world, where ever there are drugs, there can be a problem. If you are asking if there is a problem with violence due to the drug trade, as in other forum I have answered, if you do not swim with the sharks, you don't get bitten.

Tourism is a very important source of income to the country, particularly the regions tourism, so the Government has taken special measure to ensure the security of the area. Also, most of the violence is located near the border towns (approx 2500 miles away). Cancun and Riviera Maya are safe, as long as you are not buying nor consuming drugs while visiting. Happy sailing!
