  • Nightlife in Cannes is always going strong, as it is in nearly every city along the Riviera. It's hard to avoid staying out until the wee hours, since everything is open late; there's even a seaside bar (La Fregate) that's open 24 hours a day!

Even if you don't have that kind of stamina, there's plenty of fun to be had. Explore the James Bond in you at one of the most popular and well-known nightlife activities, casinos. The Casino Croisette is the most famous, and it's a fabulous place to see and be seen. Dress up (jackets required for men) if you're going to be in the gaming rooms, or more casual attire is fine if you're sticking to the slot machines. Don't forget your passport, too - casinos generally require identification for admission.

There aren't a ton of bar and club choices, but the ones in the heart of Cannes won't disappoint. Morrison's and The Quay are two British/Irish pubs that are reliable for a good pint of beer and some live acoustic music. A few gay bars are also open in town, like Le Zanzibar, which claims to be Europe's oldest bar. It can also be fun and rewarding to try a couple of different wines at a wine bar, especially if you're not familiar with some French wines or you're an expert looking to discover something new. Go out dancing at one of the few clubs that have live bands or DJs, such as the aforementioned Morrison's Lounge, for a lively evening.

Music of a different sort can be found at the various piano bars and salsa bars in Cannes, where patrons can enjoy the music and even dancing lessons. Concerts can also be found at the Palais des Festivals, which hosts the Cannes Film Festival in May. During the rest of the year, the Palais also is host to theater, dance, opera, and comedy performances, as well as games, art, and jazz festivals.
