Restaurant Arménien (Le)

Description:

  • Cannes has always been one of the most cosmopolitan cities along the Riviera, and the success of this Armenian culinary outpost seems to prove it. It has no menu, although once your experience here is finished, you'll know a lot more about the cuisines of Armenia, Turkey, and Greece than you did before. For a set price, you'll experience an abundant medley of dishes that will be brought to your table in quantities you might find staggering. Expect about 20 cold plates, at least a dozen warm plates, enough vegetables to warm the heart of the most fanatical vegetarian, and at least five different desserts. There are lots of braised eggplants, tomatoes (both stewed and raw), an emphasis on cracked wheat in the form of such dishes as kechgeg (stewed beef served on a bed of cracked wheat), cabbage stuffed with mint, grilled meatballs with fresh herbs, and many others. According to owners Christian and Lucie Panossian, about 80% of the dishes served here are steamed rather than fried, establishing this place as one of the most health-conscious eateries in town. You'll find this place directly on the coastal boulevard, a short walk from the Hôtel Martinez.
