The Festival de Cannes always takes place in May (May 16-27 in 2012) when the weather is mild, not too hot, just right for strolling along the boardwalk to enjoy all the glitter. It's perfect also towards the beginning of the evening when all the stars go up the red carpet. You can always get to see a couple of the competing movies which play non-stop from early morning to late evening.
