Island in the Sky
The most popular district of Canyonlands by far, Islands in the Sky consists of a 6,000-foot high mesa that descends into rivers and trails below. You can take part in interpretive activities and guided hikes led by the knowledgeable rangers. The visitor's center has great interactive displays for the kids (and the kids at heart!) as well as up-to-the-minute information on all the area hikes and how the weather might have affected access. Scramble (safely) around Whale Rock with the kids, or set your sights on Lathrop Canyon for a more intensive hiking experience. Head out to Mesa Arch early enough to catch the sunrise—wow! Make sure your camera batteries are fresh for that one. Upheaval Dome Outlook and Grand View Point trails are must-do classics. © NileGuide
