Description:
Although some locals rue the day the old Harbour Tavern (a kitsch 1970s relic) closed down, anyone who loves an ocean view while imbibing its fresh bounty, skillfully sliced, diced, wrapped, and/or cooked, will raise a glass of sake to the team who transformed it into the elegant Wakame. The best place to eat with a sea view, it features an airy interior where Japanese chefs display their skills, and ceiling-length glass doors fold back entirely to reveal a postcard-perfect view of the tankers and containerships sailing in and out of the nearby harbor. Sushi and sashimi are made to order, but here service can be tardy; besides, Wakame has a great menu to choose from. Seared tea-smoked tuna served on wasabi mash is flavorful, and the shrimp and butter sauce is simply delicious, but the top rating goes to the sesame-crusted tuna, served on bok choy and topped with slivers of deep-fried sweet potato. Upstairs the new hot spot Wafu serves up a dim-sum-style menu -- order a plate of lobster and pumpkin dumplings with a bottle of bubbly, and watch the trendy crowd schmoozing on the lounge-style wooden deck.
