- According to seafood aficionados, the Wharfside Grill in Hout Bay takes the honor for the best seafood restaurant in the Cape. The venue has an enviable position at the head of Mariner's Wharf, filling a large first-storey space overlooking the quayside. There is a wonderful maritime theme with flotsam and jetsam collected from all over the world. Try the Special Cargo of lobster, prepared in various ways, or the Fisherman's Basket of calamari, prawns, mussels and fish. Or, perhaps the Fresh Cargo of oysters, rollmops and gravadlax, the Trader's Cargo of chowder and lobster bisque, and not to mention the Special Consignment, made up of mussels, seafood pasta and squid steak – could take your fancy. The list is endless, but don't despair if you're not a seafood lover as there are numerous non-fish options. The small range of wines is reasonably priced.
