- Located near City Hall on Port Elizabeth's historic and beautiful Market Square, the Diaz Cross commemorates the arrival of the first European at Algoa Bay in 1488, Bartholomew Diaz. Donated by the Portuguese government, this is a replica of one of three markers left by Diaz on the South African Coast.
