Description:

  • Meerlust is one of South Africa's most famous wine estates. The first owner of the farm was Henning Huising, an early German immigrant who became a very wealthy cattle and sheep farmer in the colony. The farm was granted to him by Governor Simon van der Stel in 1693, and he named it Meerlust (pleasure of the sea). Huising built the Cape Dutch homestead in the 17th century. In 1757 Johannes Albertus Myburgh bought the estate, and it has been in the Myburgh family for nine generations. Unfortunately, the estate is not open to the public, but can be visited by appointment.
