Description:

  • One of Capitola's most romantic restaurants has a serene setting above Soquel Creek. To reach it, diners take a cable-driven "hillavator" down, or walk the long, steep steps beside a running waterfall. At the bottom, a log cabin built in the 1920s has been enlarged to house Shadowbrook's wood-paneled Wine Cellar, airy Garden Room, Fireplace Room, and creek-side Greenhouse. The menu is unsurprising, with thick-cut prime rib and steaks, seafood such as scampi and fresh halibut, and pasta dishes such as the eggplant parmigiana. Appetizers include prawn cocktail, deep-fried artichoke hearts, and baked brie. Standout desserts are the mud pie and the Shadowbrook chocolate meltdown. If you're not ready to dine, grab a seat in the lounge and nosh on appetizers and light entrees from the wood-fired oven.
