  • Get ready to party. Nowhere in Venezuela do they get down as much as they do in Caracas. Caraquenos have an insatiable lust for pulsing lights, pounding speakers, delicious drinks and long, long nights. But it's not just the young that stay out dancing till the wee hours---partying at bars and clubs is a way of life in Caracas. And what a life it is! Most clubs are open from 7pm till daybreak, Tuesday through Saturday. But the real parties get rolling after 11pm, Thursday through Saturday. Make sure to don the spiffiest selections in your suitcase, as caraquenos dress to impress---and doormen may not let you in wearing jeans and sneakers. The most hoppin' clubs can be found on the east end of the city, especially in the Las Mercedes area. The younger bar scene is also centered around Las Mercedes, while more traditional establishments with more mature crowds cluster around Sabana Grande. Tascas are great places for a truly Venezuelan experience: diverse crowds gather to munch on tapas, toss a couple drinks back and dance the night away to live bands. Caracas is also the country's cultural capital, and that means that the arts play into all aspects of life, including nightlife. The city's major center for dance and music performances is Complejo Cultural Teresa Carreno, which hosts high-production ballets, plays and musical performances. Famous theater groups to catch include Sala Rajatabla and El Teatro Municipal. Live music venues in Caracas are also plentiful. Check out Juan Sebastian Bar for jazz, Moulin Rouge for edgy rock numbers and Mi Linda Llanura for traditional tunes. As big as Caracas is, large cineplexes can definitely be found. The Cines Unidos chain shows movie with original soundtracks and Spanish subtitles (read: no dubbing), while Cinemateca Nacional and Cines Paseo feature more alternative cinema.
