hello, IT DEPENDS ON SOME ASPECTS, IF IT IS WEST, EAST,SOUTH OR NORTH OF THE CITY. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THE EAST PART OF THE CITY. I WORK WITH REAL STATES, SO IF YOU KINDLY SEND ME FURTHER INFO I WOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU REALLY GOOD PLACES AND AN ESTIMATE OF THE COST OF LIVING.
IN MERIDA IS ALMOST THE SAME, ALTHOUGH LESS EXPENSIVE THAN LIVING HERE IN CARACAS. BY COST OF LIVING I MEAN FOOD, CLOTHING,GOING OUT FOR DINNERS,LUNCH, ETC, CLUBS,PUBS,CINEMAS,EVERYTHING. I CAN GIVE YOU ALL THE INFO YOU NEED, JUST LET ME KNOW HOW BIG YOUR FAMILY IS, OR IF ITS JUST YOU, YOUR PARTNER...ETC.
THANKS FOR WRITING.

Hi, The living cost in Venezuela it's a little expensive. In Caracas, the rent can cost more than $ 1100, all depend of the area and $ 600 to live without luxuries, you need to buy at the supermarket, eating once a month away, with a prepaid cell phone, electricity, telephone and if the car is yours . if you have to pay the car have to add $ 250. gasoline is very economical 30 liters less than $ 1, Living in Mérida is 20 or 30% cheaper than Caracas, it is a students small city

Well, tell you what: Life in Caracas is even more expensive than any other place in Venezuela. Utilities, housing and transport is more expensive, but the truth is that for being a populated and cosmopolitan city, you wouldn't have to move so far to get some stuff. The bad thing about Caracas is the excess of pollution and thick traffic, you need to be ready 2 hours before in order to get on time anyplace(depending the zone of the city you're located). Caracas is a bit dangerous too.
Average cost(modest apartment)monthly: USD 450.oo to USD 2000.oo
On the other hand, Merida is a beautiful place to live, organised and clean, the environment is good, and it's also cold there. Mérida is a touristic place and most people here travel there a lot. Life in Mérida is cheaper than in Caracas because is a big town, not a city such as Caracas, so maybe sometimes you'll have to travel to Caracas to get some stuff and city comfort. I have been told that sometime Mérida turns a bit dangerous.
Average cost(modest apartment)monthly: USD 230.oo to USD 500.oo
Your chose will depend on what you're exactly looking for.

Well living in Caracas is kind of expensive. Definetly you have to choose the east part of Caracas where is safer. The rent of one room can cost you between 800 to 2000 bolívares. It´s better if you share an appartment between 2 o 3 friends. If you need more info let me know I can help you because I also rent a place.
About food specially fruit, vegetables and meat are expensive.
Since Merida is a smaller city it´s much cheaper.

The cost of living in Venezuela in general is very expensive. I can imagine you've heard this a million times, already! But when it comes to rent, food, públic transport, phone, light and water bill, you have to calculate a minimum of Bolivars Bs.3000 monthly if you have and can get an income of Bs.5000, that would be totally fantastic, which means you won't be needing more unless you like to go shopping a lot. Mérida would be a bit cheaper, but not so much either. In Venezuela, the minimum wage is like Bs.800 monthly, but most people gain between 1000 and 2300 monthly. For those who gain little amount has to have two jobs if possible or, try and do miracles for their salary to cover their expenses and minimize the max possible.
