Description:

  • On the north end, Carlsbad State Beach is the preferable location for surfers. In fact, this beach is often the choice for novice surfers. The surf is generally three to eight feet, with winds headed west to northwest. Meanwhile, further down the Coast Highway (just south of Palomar Airport Road), South Carlsbad State Beach spans quite a distance along the coastline. This beach is better suited for swimming than surfing. Furthermore, this spot is ideal for families, with plenty of space for children to play in the waves or the sand. Beachside camping is another unique activity that this beach offers.
