NileGuide Expert Says:
Pack a sweater and binoculars to spot marine life (otters, seals, sea lions, whales, and birds). Park in the last lot and take a picnic to the secluded and picture perfect China Beach.
Description:
- California's rugged coastline is distilled to its essence in the 1.30 acres of Point Lobos, where easy to moderate gravel trails lead to stunning ocean vistas, hidden beaches, turquoise waters, tidal pools, and countless opportunities for relaxation and discovery. The air is pregnant with pine, sea spray, and wild blossoms. The Whaler's Cabin is the oldest building on the Monterey Peninsula, offering a display of whaling and nautical artifacts, photographs, and trivia. Docents are friendly and knowledgeable. World class SCUBA diving is permitted with reservations – often made months in advance – and limited to 15 teams of two divers (30 total) on any given day. Nowhere else is the drama of the Pacific played out with greater majesty and intensity than among the craggy cliffs and stunning seascape of Point Lobos.
