  • Are you looking fora a satisfying meal in Charleston without breaking the bank? No worries, the city is bursting with restaurants that serve good food at decent prices. All three of East Bay Crab Shack's locations -- downtown, West Ashley and Folly Beach -- are hot favorites with locals and visitors alike. The hungry tourist who wanders in off the streets of downtown Charleston has struck it rich -- a converted 18th-century warehouse that dishes up the best in local seafood. The decor is nothing spectacular, but who cares? Roll up your sleeves and dive into a bucket of fresh steamed clams, spoon up some Low Country Frogmore Stew or savor the delicious Charleston crab cakes, made up of more crab than cake.

For fast food that tastes really good, try Shoney's. This cafe serves quick bites like sandwiches, burgers, desserts and beverages. Located in the historic downtown district of Charleston, Shoney's is what fast food is all about -- a great place to hang out with the gang, reasonable prices and great food.

Gullah Cuisine Lowcountry Restaurant is an unpretentious little dive that pays tribute to the cuisine of the Gullahs, among the first African-Americans to live in the Low Country islands. Gullah cooking is evocative of Creole flavors, and the dirty rice served here comes with fresh shrimp, chicken, and andouille sausage. The okra gumbo is a delight, as is the she-crab soup, one of the best served in Charleston. And locals come for miles around to sample the southern fried chicken served with extra-cheesy macaroni. Go ahead, enjoy a great meal without burning a hole in your pocket. These cheap Charleston restaurants are the real deal.
