Description:
This blockbuster of a restaurant caters to a devoted clientele of locals who prefer its two-fisted drinks in an upscale macho decor, and a tasty cuisine that defines the restaurant as a Southern-style steakhouse. It's also a good choice for nightlife because of its casual elegance and its busy and cozy bar where live music, usually jazz, is performed nightly from 6 to 10pm. Cuisine here, under the direction of Anthony Gray, is genuinely wonderful. Dig into the buttermilk-fried oysters with arugula in a green goddess dressing, or a house-made version of the most sophisticated platter of charcuterie in the Carolinas. It's all there -- processed terrines and sausages and cold cuts butchered and processed on-site in ways that evoke 19th-century France. Gourmets gravitate to the barbecue-spiced seared flounder, sliced medallions of venison au poivre, or succulent Carolina rabbit, wrapped in prosciutto; but most diners go for one of the juicy, tender steaks.
