This is a modern, comfortable, well-run hotel, in no way a luxury property but nothing that will depress you (though I take personal offense at the fabric cover on the toilet seat). The most cheer-inducing aspect is that it's the best-value deal in town. It's also conveniently located in downtown Chennai but only 12km (7 1/2 miles) from the airport. Book a room on the 11th floor (the only nonsmoking floor, with standard rooms); book a Residency Club room and they'll throw in a complimentary airport transfer (though you can get a taxi for less than the additional Rs 1,800/$44/£22 this will run you). Room decor changes from floor to floor but you're basically looking at gold touches paired with a green-blue theme or rich maroon. Dining options are nothing to write home about; just cross the road to dine at the Copper Point, the in-house restaurant at neighboring hotel GRT Grand (very similar, by the way, but with rates running at around Rs 2,500/$61/£31 higher; www.grtgrand.com) offering very, very good Indian fare. The pool area is a little drab, but at least it's there for when the Chennai heat really has you beat.
