Description:
Originally a 1920s farmhouse, the Folkestone Inn, which bills itself as a place to escape and explore, has the benefit of location. The structure is framed by a grove of Norway spruce trees, with a mountain stream serving as a boundary with the wilderness. Guests can explore the park and play golf at a nearby course. Asheville and other towns are just an hour's drive away. Rustic is the most apt term to describe the rooms, which are furnished with antiques, including the beds (some have queen-size beds). Each unit has its own bathroom with a shower and an old-fashioned claw-foot tub. The upstairs rooms have balconies with mountain views; the downstairs rooms have flagstone floors and pressed-tin ceilings. Breakfast is the only meal served, and what you get is a little less common than your standard eggs and bacon; you might see eggs Benedict when you sit down at the table. Dinner is now available for groups of eight or more for $30 per person. Dinner reservations must be made in advance.
