- Tucked away in the northeast corner of the Old City, the Upper Deck Bar is a classy yet cozy escape from the usual semi-Indian, bohemian décor of most of the Old City backpacker district bars. The bar is located on the roof of the owner's brother's photo gallery, open in the daytime. Seated at the bar's tables, drink sippers can see out over the Old City, the top of the famed stupa at Wat Chedi Luang, and Wat Phratat Doi Suthep atop the mountain rising over the city to the west. Upper Deck runs a full cocktail bar and has a short but sweet French wine list. Reasonably priced bar snacks and free WiFi are also available. - Scott Johnson
