The top 10 best waterfalls to visit in Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai remains a long way from the sea, a fact that might deter some travelers, but if it is cool waters you seek, Chiang Mai province has some of the best waterfalls in Thailand. A good waterfall often needs a mountain to give it its mojo and that is something Northern Thailand is not short of. Within an hours drive of Chiang Mai town there are numerous falls that can provide that picture perfect postcard spot and a place to swim in fresh clean water and escape the heat.
Some of these waterfalls have pools where one can fully immerse themsleves, while others are simply beautiful and shady spots to dip your toes. All of them have impressive volumes of water and can get quite thunderous in the wet season. The areas around the falls are often perfect for hikes and picnics, with swimming permitted in all the pools. While you may not always get them all to yourself, seeing smiling locals enjoying the setting, lends them a nice community feel.
