Description:

  • The Freebird Café is the project of Lisa Nasser, who a few years ago began teaching Burmese refugee street children English in her home. Now Lisa directs the Thai Freedom House, giving educational opportunities to Burmese refugees of all ages. The Freebird Café is the Freedom House's primary supporting business and is staffed by the school's students. The menu is vegetarian and as organic as Lisa can find. An assortment of healthy and delicious Thai and Shan (an ethnic minority indigenous to the northern Thai and Burmese border) dishes are available. The café also has a gift shop with crafts made by the refugees. If all this isn't compelling enough to stop by, the cafe also has free Wi-Fi internet. -Scott Johnson
