Description:

  • This little house-turned-restaurant can be a bit tricky to find but is well worth it for those who do. Hmwe's menu, written in Burmese with English and Thai translations and explanations, has a wide assortment of Burmese and Shan specialty dishes. Their salads, somewhat resembling casseroles, are simply amazing. The curries, which are neither quite Thai nor quite Indian, are not to be missed and can be ordered with rare meats such as lamb, frog, or even snake! Such culinary adventures are easier on the pocketbook to sample here than at other locations in Chiang Mai. The all-Burmese staff are very friendly, welcoming, and speak impressive English. -Scott Johnson
