• Sompet Market is located right in the middle of the Old City, making this style open-air market a popular attraction for tourists. For this reason, and because many of Chiang Mai's cooking classes bring their students to Sompet to buy ingredients for the day, prices can run a little high compared to similar goods in other markets. Avoid the vendors right on the Soi to get better prices. Inflation aside, Sompet offers a large variety of local fruits, vegetables, meats, and spices all day long, making a visit well worth your while for an edible souvenir or a fresh breakfast, all cheaper than at a restaurant. -Scott Johnson
