BPP & Hill Tribe

Description:

  • In 1965 the King of Thailand traveled to Thailand's border regions, visited the Border Patrol Police (BPP), and donated money for them to support the many hill tribe peoples who live in those regions. His goal was to create alternative production outlets for the hill tribes to discourage opium cultivation. In 1962 the King opened this shop near Wat Suan Dok as an outlet for clothes, bed covers, jewelry, silverware, musical instruments, and dolls made by Thailand's six hill tribes. Profits from BPP & Hill Tribe go to support hill tribe villages and to the BPP school students and their families. -Scott Johnson
