Mae Tho National Park

Description:

  • Mae Tho National Park in Chiang Mai Province is located at the Water Source Development Unit 6. Some parts of the Mae Line forest reserve in Hod district and the Pha Mae Chaem forest reserve in Mae Chaem district are part of the National Park. Spanning across 990 square kilometers, the forest mountainous park has evergreen forests in the northern area, while the Hod district and the area around it have dry dipterocap and pine forests. In some areas, the park also sprouts mixed deciduous and hilly evergreen forests. Amongst all this greenery, there are a number of animals that call this home. Some of them are, species of deer, bears, species of primates like  gibbons, monkeys, langur and masked palm civets, other regular forest features like rabbits, frogs, wild boars and elephants, peacocks and pheasants. You will also see red jungle fowls, Gracula Religiosa, Trogon, hawks, woodpeckers, snakes like pythons and cobras, a variety of lizards including the monitor lizard, turtles including soft-shelled turtles and of course, a variety of fish in different water bodies through the park.
