The Best of NileGuide
- Are you looking to get your fill without draining your wallet? These fuss-free places also offer the opportunity to rub shoulders with everyday locals, and still have a great dining experience. These aren't just cheap diners, but restaurants with plenty of style and flavor. For breakfast enjoy normal diner food, but some fresh options as well in the 1950's inspired Salt & Pepper Diner in Lincoln Park. Ridiculously cheap! For lunch you have to try Italian beef while in Chicago, so stop for lunch at Portillo's and dig in! Other great lunch spots include Panes Bread Cafe in Lakeview that is a local favorite for its' fast service and homey feel. You will also enjoy the artisan sandwiches at Birchwood Kitchen served by some of Chicago's best local chefs - you won't believe you paid so little for something so fresh and delightful (house made mozzarella!). There are many cheap Asian restaurants to choose from, but I recommend Joy's Noodles in Lakeview for dependable Thai cuisine in a fun and casual environment, where you always know what you are getting. It is also BYOB! Locals also love Penny's Noodles for tasty twists on traditional Thai dishes. If you are looking for traditional, your dollar will go far at Opart Thai House, but you will be amazed by the authentic taste and homemade sauces. If you don't have time for Greektown you can satisfy your craving at the Athenian Room - it is a bit on the heavy side, but great for on-the-go. For a cheap dinner definitely try Cafe Iberico, where you can pick favorite tapas and keep the pitchers of sangria flowing all at very reasonable prices, which is surprising considering it is located downtown. This is a great place to take a large group of people. Another prime spot for groups is Nuevo Leon in Pilsen. Cheap Mexican food in a fun, colorful, authentic environment.
