Loop
Named for the El, the Loop is Chicago's main business district, home to its theater district and several of the nation's first skyscrapers. The downtown got its nickname because the "El" runs elevated in a loop around the city center. Within the Loop are glamorous hotels, the city's tallest skyscrapers, finest museums, and most spectacular shopping. All visitors must visit the Chicago Cultural Center to get free information about traveling the city, or catch an afternoon live performance in the lobby of the visitor center. Grant Park and Millennium Park could also be considered Loop territory and are not to be missed.
Within the Loop, Dearborn and Randolph Avenues mark the famed Theatre District, including The Chicago Theatre, Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Bank of America Theatre, and the Goodman Theatre. Most of these venues are in beautiful restored buildings, and light up and add to the excitement of the bustling Loop.
