Wicker Park/Bucktown
Historically a melting pot of immigrant communities, Bucktown and Wicker Park became a destination for the artistic crowd in the late 20th century, making it an intriguing place to live for its lively culture. Gentrification followed and now this area boasts some of the city's trendiest shops/boutiques, bars, and restaurants attracting a younger crowd. It is a very friendly residential area, full of Chicago charm, with brick flats, bustling shopping, and steps away from the el. The center of the action is at the intersection of the Milwaukee, North, and Damen avenues, and also where you can catch the Blue Line. Head down any of these streets to find great restaurants and bars including the Subterranean Lounge, the Violet Hour, the Map Room. Art and music festivals go on year-round, with the Wicker Park Festival in July as a summer highlight.
