The Far North Side, located off the Bryn Mawr and Thorndale Red Line stops, is wide and varied, both geographically and demographically. Diversity is a common theme here. The area was once the settling place for the Swedish, but today there are Vietnamese, Thai, Indian, Pakistani, Polish, African-American, LGBT, Jewish, and Colombian neighborhoods, among many others. The Edgewater neighborhood is actually home to the most same-sex couples in Chicago.
Andersonville, located in Edgewater, is a historic neighborhood full of Old World charm. The Swedish American Museum is a great place to learn about the history of the neighborhood. This area is also perfectly located at the northern most point of the Lake Michigan Bike Path and next to Foster Beach, one of Chicago's least crowded sandy beaches. Visitors will find plenty of tasty restaurants, like brunch hot spots, M Henry and Anne Sather, and laid back neighborhood bars like Hopleaf Tavern and Simon's.
