Description:

Considering redecorating your home with historically significant pieces?  How about a 45-inch high pair of polychromed carousel lions or a Burmese temple alter circa mid-18th century?  Architectural Artifacts, Inc. houses an overwhelming collection of objects and art in its 80,000 square-foot space and courtyard on Ravenswood just south of Montrose.  Connected by a vast atrium, the combined two-building showroom is full of strange and beautiful items ranging from stained glass windows to factory parts, ancient to art deco.  It's delightfully easy to get lost in here.  Every item is for sale, but if the cleverly written price tags are a little out of your range (those lions run around $48,000), the incredibly friendly staff welcomes you to wander around and ask plenty of questions.  The ground floor of the atrium now holds AAI's Museum of Historic Chicago Architecture featuring items from local landmark buildings by well-known designers.
