Description:
- Located in the flatlands of northwest Ohio, Mary Jane Thurston State Park offers six miles of flat, easy terrain. A small network of trails have been created each bearing the name of a resident mammal, i.e. Whitetail Loop, Raccoon Loop, Red Fox Trail, etc. These trails are open to backpackers that typically enjoy exploring the park then move on to the Buckeye Trail which encircles the entire state. Horseback riders are also invited to use this trail system.
There are no technical challenges along the double and singletrack route. A small elevation gain of 75 feet is encountered but barely noticeable.
Shoreline fishing is a favorite at the park. White bass and walleye are the typical Maumee River catches.
The area is steeped in Native American and Revolutionary War history. Park brochures provide a nice read while relaxing riverside.
