  • Type: Shows
  • NileGuide Expert Says:

Don’t miss the Katydids, full of bright up and coming performers whose names all happen to be derived from Katherine.

  • Description:

    • Founded in 1981 by improv comedy luminary Del Close and Charna Halpern, iO (formerly Improv Olympic) is known for its long-form style, the Harold, which revolutioniazed improvised comedy.  Their methods focus on team-building and agreement, and Halpern has helped build relationships between the scientists at the CERN's Large Hadron Collider.  Alums of iO include Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Mike Meyers, Chris Farley, Jack McBrayer and many more well-known hilarious people.  The company, located in Wrigleyville, offers performances seven nights a week and several each night.  Tickets are always under $20 and sometimes as little as $5.  On different nights, teams of performers take on different challenges.  The Deltones perform a completely improvised musical while the Improvised Shakespeare Co. puts ona full show in Elizabethan style.   If you're around for a while, you might even think of registering for a Level I class to work on your comedy skills!
