Guests slumber in the very bungalows used by the archeologists who excavated the sprawling site. The hotel's restaurant serves the best food in the are, bar none, and the spa features calming massages and body treatments that use traditional Mayan products and medicine.
The largest hotel in Chichen Itza is my #2 choice: Mayaland Hotel. Even though is teems with large bus groups on package tours the Mayaland still manages to deliver a first-class experience. The same owners operate The Lodge at Chichen Itza, which aims for a more eco-friendly, relaxed ambience.
