Description:
This Relais & Châteaux property began in the 1100s as a fortress and changed to its present form during the Renaissance. It remained untouched during the region's civil wars. The centerpiece of the wine-producing hamlet of Marçay, it's sumptuously decorated. The main building houses the more opulent lodgings; a handful of less expensive, less dramatic rooms are in an annex a short walk away. About half of the units come with tub and shower; more modern rooms have only a shower. Menu specialties change with the season, and the chef works hard to maintain high standards. The garden terrace and elegantly rustic dining room afford a panoramic view.
