Don't let negative stereotypes fool you: there are many worthwhile places to visit in Cleveland. For many visitors, a trip to the famous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum on Cleveland's lakefront is a top priority. While you're in the area, catch a film at the Omnimax Theater at the Great Lakes Science Center or visit the WWII Submarine USS Cod, a National Historic Landmark.
To the west of downtown and the Cuyahoga River, you can enjoy walking around and looking at fresh produce, baked goods, and a variety of ethnic foods at the West Side Market, a large, publicly-owned market. The Great Lakes Brewing Company is just across the street from the market, where you can take a tour and taste great beer (which Cleveland is famous for!)
Cleveland's University Circle neighborhood, just east of downtown, is home to numerous cultural and educational institutions, all of which are within walking distance of each other. A great place to spend the day or an afternoon, you can visit the world class Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Botanical Gardens and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History while you're there. You can also stroll around the residential areas of the Circle, which have enormous, turn of the century mansions that now house schools, clubs, and other organizations.
